Frequently Asked Questions
I placed an online order about a week ago- when is my bread going to ship?
On Wednesday the week after you placed your order. In any given shipping cycle we collect orders from early Monday morning until Sunday at midnight, then begin a two-day process of pre-ferments, mixing, proofing, baking, packing and those breads are eventually shipped out Wednesday. This makes for as much as a nine day timeline but means we are baking specifically to your order.
Why isn’t my favorite Buckwheat/Olive Rosemary/Harvest Boule available online? It’s been sold out for a long time!
Each variety of Boule is baked for online orders 2 out of every 3 weeks, as we have three varieties of boules but can only bake two on any given Wednesday for shipping. So each variety is available for two weeks in a row, then takes one week off.
Why is my favorite bread always out of stock?
It can sometimes appear that certain varieties of bread are always out of stock when waiting for it to reappear in our online shop. The reality is we have been selling out of bread very quickly this past year and it’s difficult to keep the supply full even though we restock every Monday morning.
The bread we deliver to our Vermont and New Hampshire stores on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday follows its own bake schedule and it’s worth mentioning the following:
Country Seeded Loaf is only baked Mondays and Tuesdays
Buckwheat Boule is only baked Mondays and Tuesdays
Harvest Boule is only baked on Thursdays and Fridays
Meanwhile, we are working hard to increase production in both the short and long term and we thank you for both your support and your patience.
The delivery address for the order I already placed is wrong- can you change that for me?
As long as we get notified in time, that’s no problem at all. Just email us the correct address and we’ll take care of it on our end. Please remember- UPS will not deliver to a PO Box.
If the cost of shipping is substantially different between the original and corrected address, we may ask for additional payment. We’ll send you an email with the amount to be paid by venmo @bontebakery or paypal at bontebakery@gmail.com.
Will you ever bake Chocolate Sourdough again?!?!
Ah, yes. The love for chocolate is a powerful emotion. We get asked this often and can only say that, while some customers really enjoyed it a whole lot, it wasn’t that successful with everyone. So we’ve removed it from the lineup for the time being but… who knows? Sometimes a holiday rekindles the old magic. We’ll let you know if it’s going to appear again.
Is Bonte Bakery on social media?

Do you take orders over the phone?
If you are a wholesale business looking to sell our bread in your store or restaurant, then it often makes sense for us to speak on the phone to make those arrangements. But if you are an online shipping customer, you’ll simply place your order through our online store.
Can I just stop by the bakery and buy directly from you?
We apologize but cannot sell directly to walk-in customers at this point. We do not have a retail space, or even a register.
Why is your shipping bread packaged in plastic? I thought you were trying to eliminate plastic from your production and packaging?
Yes, we are trying very hard to eliminate plastic from our production and packaging. We are in the process of getting 100% home compostable bioplastic bags that are made entirely of plants and plan to use those for shipping. Designing, sourcing and producing them takes more time than we had hoped for.
Why don’t you use the same bags for shipping that you use for packaging the bread you sell in stores?
We use paper glassine bags for packaging breads that are sold in local stores. These bags are biodegradable and recyclable and are made entirely of paper. Although they are great for storing bread for short periods of time they do not keep bread fresh for very long. Because of the transit time with shipping, we need packaging that will keep our bread fresher longer.
Are your glassine bags compostable?
Yes they are compostable anywhere paper products can be composted. Glassine is just paper and is also recyclable just like paper.
